You want a beautiful garden. But how do you get from the yard you have now to the garden you want?

✤ Maybe your landscape's been built piecemeal over years. Some things work and some things don't, but overall, it needs an overhaul.

✤ Maybe you have tons of ideas, but you're struggling to translate them into your own space.

✤ Maybe you're starting with a blank slate, and the thought of figuring out the entire space is overwhelming.

So you're stuck trying to answer questions like:

  • What do I actually want from this space?

  • What kinds of gardens am I drawn to, and what is it about them that appeals to me?

  • Where should the different areas go?

  • How could it all work together?

  • What do I tackle first?

And when you don't have the bigger picture worked out, every one of those decisions becomes its own problem to solve.

That's what you'll fix in the Garden Design Game Plan Workshop.

  • You want your garden to reflect your taste, priorities, and the way you actually live

  • You want to understand which garden styles and design elements appeal to you without feeling like you have to fit neatly into one style

  • You need help translating what you want into your actual property, with its existing conditions and constraints

  • You want to make confident future decisions about your garden by always keeping the bigger picture in mind

  • You want to be able to clearly communicate your vision — whether that's to a spouse, contractor, or landscape professional

This workshop is for you if —

BY THE END OF THIS WORKSHOP YOU’LL BE ABLE TO SAY:

I know what I want this garden to become.

I can show what I want it to look and feel like.

I'm starting to see how it could take shape on my property.

Build your Garden Design Game Plan

In this live, interactive workshop, I'll guide you through the process as you create 3 connected pieces for your own garden.

1. Your Design Compass

Create a design brief that gives your garden a clear direction before you make any other design decisions.

You’ll clarify:

  • Who the garden is for and what you want to happen there

  • How you want the space to feel

  • Your priorities and must-have elements

Your Design Compass becomes a point of reference for evaluating inspiration, layout ideas, plants, and future design decisions.

2. Explore Six Garden Styles

I'll walk you through six major garden styles and show you the design qualities that define each one.

You'll also see how elements from different styles can work together, helping you recognize the qualities you want to bring into your own garden.

You'll take those preferences to the next step: building a mood board that captures how you want your garden to look and feel.

3. Your Mood Board

The goal is to gather visual references that reflect your Design Compass and your personal garden style.

You’ll learn how to use images to identify the styles, materials, colors, atmosphere, and experiences you’re drawn to.

Your Mood Board is not just a collection of pretty pictures. It becomes a visual reference you will use to evaluate future garden ideas and decisions.

4. Your Bubble Diagram

Create your first sketch of what might go where. Landscape designers call this a bubble diagram. It's a way of exploring different use zones and how they relate to one another.

  • The connection to your house including access and views

  • Existing elements and site conditions

  • Exploring landscape use-zone locations

  • Basic relationships between those zones

Instead of staring at your yard wondering where to start, you'll begin testing where your different garden spaces could be located and why.

This is a crucial first step before worrying about measurements, plant lists, or any landscape details.

By the time you’re done, your garden won't be just a collection of ideas in your head.

You'll have worked through what you want from your garden, what’s most important, what you want it to look and feel like, and how those ideas could translate to your actual space.

You'll leave with a Garden Design Game Plan you can use to:

  • Explain what you want from your garden and why

  • Recognize the garden styles and overall feeling that belong in your vision

  • Evaluate new ideas quickly instead of considering every possibility from scratch

  • Begin organizing where different activities and spaces belong in your landscape

  • Propel forward your own DIY landscape design

  • Hand over to a landscape professional to clearly communicate your priorities and preferences

Instead of a head full of disconnected questions and ideas, you'll have a documented Game Plan that’s ready to go.

This is a working workshop — not an hour of sitting back and taking notes.

You’ll write, choose, sketch, compare, and make decisions about your own space.

By the end, you'll have your Garden Design Game Plan in hand, not simply learned about the process.

You Will Work Through:

✤ Professional landscape-design principles

✤ Short teaching segments

✤ Garden-style examples

✤ Individual exercises with timed work periods

✤ Step-by-step guidance
